3 times in the past month I have gone to rent a car in Chelmsford from Co-Wheels and the battery has been flat and I have not been able to use the vehicle. The last time they asked me to go around the corner to use the other vehicle and that one also had a flat battery. Made me extremely late for a very important meeting, unreliable service and I have cancelled my subscription. A real shame as managed properly and providing a reliable service this type of idea could work extremely well. It’s one thing having an idea and completely different skill set to implement it and unfortunately they seriously lack the latter most important element. Avoid. Extremely poor customer service also, waited over half an hour on all three occasions just to get hold of someone in customer services to report the problem, with no solution offered. No plan B, quite happy to just let you down.

Co-wheels are an excellent car sharing service, I’ve used them for years!
Some of the cars are getting towards the end of their life but I avoid booking those cars.

Have used on three occasions. The introductory offers make the price worthwhile. After they ended the price was just too expensive compared to other options.
One of the times the car had a flat battery, cue lots of frustration getting to an alternative hire. Not great being left out in the freezing weather.
The refuel options where contradictory. With different information on the website than told via email, so that resulted in two frustrating refuel experiences.
Bizarre pet policy, apparently I cannot take my caged cat. Why? I can understand loose dogs but not a caged animal for transport. Frankly the state the car seemed to be in at times suggested banning kids might be an idea... (Ahem).
Overall I want this to work, I love the idea of easy access to a car. However whichever way I cut it, it was just too expensive. I cycle for short trips and public transport works out better for longer. Offers for significantly reduced overnight hires of a few days may help. Maybe limited to a couple of times a year for fair useage or something. But until then...

Having access to new or nearly new cars some of which are electric is a lot better than having to pay £200 excess

My old car eventualy gave up the ghost and had to be retired. I was looking at alternative car methods including leasing when I stumbled upon Co-Wheels, so I decided to give it a go.
This was my very first time using the club. Upon collecting the BMW3i electric car I couldnt get into the car, a quick call to customer services sorted that out, the charging card used to unlock the cable from the charger was missing, again customer services sorted it out. They even added some time on that I had lost getting the small issues sorted.
I have to say it was a very good experience, I havent driven an electric car before and for this old petrol head it was very different but pleasant experience.
I do take my hat off to the girls I spoke to at co-wheels customer helpline they were absolutely amazing. Thank you all for your help and I will deffinately be a long term member of this club.

I have been a member of Co-wheels for over 3 years and would recommend joining to anyone. The cars are excellent and their customer service is second to none.

"Very smelly and dirty car sadly"
Very smelly and dirty car sadly. Handy location and have used several times as close to my home but the state of the car this time was awful. Strong smell like sour milk or the inside of a dirty dustbin. Both footwell mats in the front were soaking so possibly that. I had it for a day's hire but couldn't cope with the smell so used it for 2 short trips. Contacted customer service and got an email saying sorry we will get it valeted

I love using Co-Wheels Car Club. When I need a car I just book it on my mobile app. There are 2 cars reasonably close to my home so if one is busy the other is usually free. I got rid of my car almost 3 years ago now and have saved a fortune!
