Worst company going. Avoid, no charge in any bikes, app is slow and doesn’t indicate when you will be charged

"First time using the app and scooter ……"
First time using the app and scooter … thought it would be fun … but it was a dreadful experience! The app is not user-friendly and I walked for over 2 miles going to 3 sites where the map showed there were scooters and they were either not there or not working. I called the helpline and couldn’t understand what the foreign lady was saying and said I didn’t want to be rude but needed to speak to someone who I could understand. When I eventually found a working scooter it had 2 speeds: stop suddenly or go fast, literally nothing in between. Going down steep hills was so dangerous and jerky because the brakes could not be applied gently. There was no suspension so the ride was extremely uncomfortable. Parking zones are too few so I had to park half a mile from my destination and the ‘end ride’ function did not work so I had to take a photo to show I had finished the ride. I then saw on the beryl site that I had been suspended for asking to speak to someone who I could understand!!! As far as I am concerned they can suspend me for life because I’m not using them ever again anyway! Oh and it would have been cheaper to get a taxi … what a pile of rubbish.

"Shockingly expensive"
Shockingly expensive. Much more expensive than riding a Lime, Tier or other bikes.

"Don't work"
I tried to hire an electric bike but it wouldn't start. I contacted the online help centre they told me the battery was flat. I then tried to hire a normal bike but that wouldn't unlock. Complete waste of time. Shame as would be a good scheme if they bothered to maintain the bikes.

"After just one day"
After just one day, they've lost a long term customer. I was planning on using the escooter 4 times a week, return journeys to the gym. By prepaying on the app you can reduce the cost of minutes from 14p down to 5p per minute. Therefore I assumed this would cost me £5 a week total, which I feel is fair. After waking up this morning and checking my bank account, I discovered 2 charges of £1.50. These are UNLOCK charges. Long story short... it will cost me £4.25 per DAY for two NINE minute journeys, so that's £17 per week, or £68 a month to travel to and from the gym which is just over 1 mile away. Complete and absolute joke. I will be walking from now on!!!!!

"Brighton needs to ditch this company"
Brighton needs to ditch this company. Terrible/rude customer service, hardly any bikes available and if you do find one, you’re unable to reserve them for even 10 mins which means you can’t ever depend on getting one. Completely discourages people from using them rather than a bus when you can't rely one being there and trekking 15 mins to the nearest one to find somebody has already taken it. So deeply embarrassing for a supposedly 'green' city.

"Failure to launch"
They came to Brighton and failed to cover the area properly in a timely manner. The bikes cost more than a taxi, and triple the amount of a bus ride. The bikes still need a lot of effort to move uphill and you can't park them anywhere useful Rendering them useless for the folk who live uphill. It's a sad failure to manage the roll out properly.

"The worst bike ever!"
So this was my first time trying a Beryl "ebike". I rode it in Plymouth and it was complete rubbish. I'm going to start by saying the ebike is awkwardly heavy. I've riden bikes and motorbikes before and this one is close to a moped's weight.. something around 100kg. They don't specify the ebike weight anywhere, so it's a guess. As you may know, Plymouth is very hilly, and I had 2 hills to go up on my way.. and let me tell you the electric motor did not help at all on the hills. Sure, it gives you a 20-25% extra push on the flat (when you don't need it anyway!), but you're also pulling the bike's extra weight up the hill! There's only 3 gears, and the lowest one was definitely not suitable for a hill! The brakes don't feel safe at all when going down hill, they barely slow it down, and I was pulling both front and back brakes at the same time. There's no side mirror so you have to turn to see what's coming behind you.. Oh, and there's no suspension, so with the potholes in Plymouth you can imagine how very bumpy the ride was. Overall, the worst bike I've ever ridden, ever. I do not recommend at all, nevermind that the 2.5 mile ride cost me about £5 and a taxi would have been £9. I nearly forgot, these are 5p per minute in other cities but they're 15p per min in Plymouth, plus £1 to unlock, what a bunch of scammers!
