"Absolutely Scam"
Absolutely Scam. Battery only last 5 min and charge me £10 for not finding a bay to park.

"Absolute scam"
Absolute scam! The app didn’t show where to park and then charged £10 extra for not leaving in a designated parking spot
I wish we’d walked - total rip off

"Great if you use common sense"
I have used both electric scooters and electric bicycles from Beryl. The scooters have a top speed of about 13 miles per hour in my experience as a taller than average and heavier than average person. The key things to take note of before renting one of these is to check the lock on the bikes to make sure they don't have any dirt or rust on them, as you can be charged for not locking up, and to ensure that the location you are going to has a beryl stand nearby. Also, if you are using one of the scooters, please remember that they are road only vehicles and even come with blinkers, and act accordingly.

"Disappointing experience"
Excited to try out the eScooter after the Bournemouth Half Marathon however after downloading the App and registering details / payment card successfully - it would not verify my Driving Licence, likely as it was issued in Northern Ireland but still a valid UK licence. No answer from the helpline and didn’t see the advertised ‘Chat’ feature within the App. Disappointed indeed

"Awfull - close to being a scam"
Think very carefully before hiring one of these push bikes - they are difficult if not impossible to lock after use - leading to a very convenient £10 " fine" from the company.
Avoid until Coventry change the service providers to a profession company - see London, Manchester etc (if not sure look through the other reviews!)

"First-time e-Scooter User Notes"
As a 66 year old with a potential threat to my ability to walk I was very keen to try out the e-scooters, and if successful, lend my voice to the movement to make them legal on public roads.
I noticed the beryl scooters on the promenade at Bournemouth and vowed to try them out. This I did two days ago - with my wife - and subject to just the comments below, had a very enjoyable 40 minute ride for the expected price of £5.50 each..
BEFORE SETTING OUT:
I would advise everyone to read-up fully online before going near one. I did not think it was a scam - but was indeed so worried by the large number of such posts below that, having downloaded the app and entered my credit card details I kept a watchful eye on my billing history just to make sure I wasn't being ripped-off - and I wasn't!
Instead I would put the 'scam' comments down to people who saw the bikes in the street and without any research commiited themselves to one of the plans they didn't need, or left their bike in an incorrect location!!!
THE APP
One complaint is that the app only allows you to register your payments details, but not your driving licence. Only when you actually unlock a bike does it then ask you to photograph the front and back of your licence. This can take 10 minutes - and longer if you need to also get the app and verify your payment card.
Why you cannot validate your driving licence before setting out is a big complaint of mine.
I selected the 'pay per minute' plan as the best option for me: £1.50 to unlock, and 10p per minute.
At the time I had no idea whenever I might use them again - if ever!
UNLOCKING & RIDING THE SCOOTER
Unlocking and riding the scooter took a bit of practice (5 to 10 mins) at first, but both my wife and I picked it up very quickly. The scooters are heavy, but push-off and depress the 'Go' button slightly and the bike will set-off.
Quite reassuringly, the 'Go' button will return to 'off' if no pressure is applied. The more pressure, the more speed. We got up to a good speed in one area where no-one was about, but most of the time we footled along very happily, overtaking pedestrians when conditions allowed.
You need to concentrate on the bike - certainly as a beginner, anyway - so not much time to 'take in the sights', and instead remaining concious of everything going on around and in front of you.
The brakes were excellent.
One other moan with the app was that it just shows you how many vehicles there are at any parking spot: it does not split these between bikes and scooters (and we wanted to try the scooters!) but we opted to pick them up in a prime location where the chances were we'd get what we wanted.
But the app DID show where we could park the scooters: we did have to search around to find it a bit tucked away out of sight, but it was definitely there, as the app acknowledged.
I made sure the app showed the scooters as being off hire - and the number showing as available increased immediately by 2.
CONCLUSION
We had a great time, and were able to get much further along the promenade than we could by walking - and as we walked back, we didn't miss any of the sights.
Apart from some niggles we would fully recommend them to anyone interested, and will be lending our support to make them legal.
Thank you beryl

"Rip off"
Rip off. I used the bike for 9 minutes. £11,45 ... not worthy at all in my opinion.

"Don't pay upfront."
After walking to 3 scooters on the beryl app that were not in the street I walked 15 mins to one parked in a bay, the unlock code had been removed and beryl customer service refused to help. They're taking peoples money for minutes upfront with an app claiming there are scooters for hire. Be very wary as there's a real chance once they have ur money u will find there arent any availible where they say. This company will offer u nothing for this, they just want ur money.

"Easy and fun"
Very fun to go on the scooters, although i had a problem with it accidentally locking after pausing the ride finished and charged for out of zone parking, i called up and they were friendly and refunded me quickly, from other reviews id say they didnt try customer service!

"SCAM"
SCAM. Be very wary when using the services of either a bike or a scooter. You will be charged an extra £10 for leaving it in an 'Out Of Zone' area despite it being a Beryl Site. This is hidden in very small print and warned on the app but it is cleverly worded to cause confusion when trying to unlock the vehicle. Be warned, you will end up paying a lot of money. Far more than a taxi or bus. RIP OFF!!
