"Disappointing Service Experience with Mashreq Bank"

I have been trying to obtain a No Liability Letter from Mashreq Bank for over a month after successfully closing my credit card. Despite multiple follow-ups and visits to the Full Service Branch, I have been repeatedly redirected to Phone Banking without any resolution. This lack of accountability and inefficient customer service is extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

I expected a reputed institution like Mashreq Bank to handle such a straightforward request promptly. Instead, I have been subjected to unnecessary delays and runarounds, wasting my time and effort. I strongly urge the bank to streamline their processes and prioritize customer satisfaction.

Mashreq Process
1. To close the credit card, just paying off the full amount won’t cut it—you’ll need to call customer care and ask them to cancel the installments. Of course, this comes with the added fun of paying 250 dhms per installment as cancellation charges. Once you’ve made those payments, your installments will be cleared. But wait, there’s more! The amount you just paid became overpayment, you’ll have to call customer care again to transfer the extra amount to your current account. After all this, you can finally request the card cancellation. All in all, expect this delightful process to take about two weeks.
2. So, your card is now closed—but here's the next hurdle: requesting a No Liability Letter. To do that, don’t even think about using your debit card for at least a week. Why? Because the account shouldn’t have any amount on hold, and the bank needs merchant clearance for each debit card transaction. Yes, even if the amount has already been deducted from your account, it won’t matter. I honestly don’t get how a debit card transaction impacts a credit card closure, or why merchant clearance is required when the money has already left your account, but hey—those are the Mashreq exclusive rules!
3. Don’t be surprised if you still get cashback credited messages after the card is closed. What happens to that cashback? Who knows.
4. Now you’re all set to request the No Liability letter—except, surprise! Only the soft copy option is available. But if you insist on a hard copy? Well, buckle up! You’re in for an exciting journey across various services and branches. Think of it as a treasure hunt, except the treasure is just a simple piece of paper. Enjoy the adventure!

Edit after reponse: 24/7 support is useless, inconsistent, full of false promises. Customer care doesn't even know that they don't have an option in mobile to request for a hard copy of the No Liability Letter. I'm fed up with your service. Waiting for this letter to initiate account closure. @mashreq, if you really need to improve customer care, go through the recordings of customer's conversations (if you are recording as you say in every call) where you see how bad your customer care is.

Chatbot is a joke. Not sure why its called a Chatbot as it has only options selection and template answers; the same I can get from other menu options available. To initiate another request in Chatbot, you should close the app and go back to the chat again.

Final response received after a month of my time and effort. In their own words "Mashreq is a digital bank. We provide only digital copies. Mashreq stopped issuing hard copies of No Liability Letter. You can take colour copy if you need it." When asked about stamp and signature, I am told stamp is already there printed in digital copy and signature is not required.

"Al Mashreq Bank has given me the worst…"

Al Mashreq Bank has given me the worst banking experience I have ever encountered. Significant amounts of money were withdrawn from my account without my knowledge or authorization. When I reached out to the bank for an explanation, their customer service was shockingly unhelpful and failed to provide any clarity or resolution. It’s evident that this bank does not prioritize the security or satisfaction of its customers. I strongly advise anyone against dealing with such an unreliable and unsafe bank.

"The worse bank ever (Neo Biz) Don't try it! "

The worst experience I ever had with this bank, especially if you are Neo Biz where they treat the SME people as cheap customers, bad customer support, not to mention the number of times they rejected international and Local Transactions, Cheque deposits for unknown reasons like " internal policy" which you never understand, each time you need to go to the branch and meet the management to get things resolved, otherwise customer service in Egypt, India has zero value and you can not ever hear them due to cheap telephony system they are use.
As for what they call " account managers" they are also not helpful and lack communication and information with delay and no response to you as a client, my advice to those who have SME business, go to Wio Bank and get your business account set with them, otherwise you will lose your time and money.

We would like to inform you that the transactions in question were performed by you using your debit card between April 18th and May 8th, 2024. Although the transactions were successfully processed by the merchants, due to a technical issue, they were not debited from your account at that time. SCAMMER BANK !!!!!!!!!! "I think if they can simply improve by…"

I think if they can simply improve by assigning a human to listen to the issues of users instead of circling them on automated voice options (which by the way, don't work, if they ever cared to test).

I made a transfer yet 2 days the other party has not received it. The only option left for me is to visit the bank itself as I am unable to reach anyone through phone.

Edit: my whole rant was about their automatic voice/chat support system not working, and they replied below to me asking to connect again with their bots. What an irony.

"Tricky Balance Transfer Schemes"

I chose a balance transfer because they offered a 6-month payment plan, requiring only a small percentage to be paid monthly until you complete the payment based on your payment plan. However, upon reviewing my statement, I saw they were demanding the full amount. When I contacted their representative for clarification, they explained that since I made a transaction with the card a few days after the balance transfer, it violated their conditions. As a result, I now have to pay the entire balance transfer amount.

They further informed me that using the credit card for any other transactions is not allowed until the balance transfer is fully paid. This restriction wasn’t clearly stated in the terms and conditions when I initiated the transfer through their app.

What’s the point of using their credit if they impose such limitations? I might as well pay it off and close the account. Otherwise, they’ll just burden me with unnecessary fees instead of genuinely offering a helpful payment plan.

I’ve done balance transfers with other banks before, and there were no such restrictions. I could still use the credit card as long as I paid the required minimum amount each month.

This is a really bad experience for me. A lesson learned not to use their account anymore.

Update 30/Dec/2024: I just got a call from their representative and agreed to do the installment for the balance transfer.

It suggest making a call to their customer service representative first before making any transaction so as to avoid these confusions.
