Valspar Paint

"Don’t use Valspar eggshell!"
Don’t use Valspar eggshell!
Recently got a decorator (very qualified and experienced) to paint 7 doors and a staircase in a black shade of Valspar eggshell. I bought it in the store to match an existing wall colour as Brewers refused to colour match it in Zinsser or Johnstone’s. The person mixing the paint said no need for trade, while she was calling the previous customer “a k**b” for having complained about the colour he’d ordered and had asked for his money back. The decorator prepped the surfaces and put three coats on and we let it set for three days. It immediately started to peel off to the base even when caught with a fingernail. Still doing it after 2 weeks and it looks terrible!! It hasn’t happened on the back of the doors which were painted with Leyland trade eggshell in white. Spoke to B&Q in store and was told no need for a primer, then you should have used a primer, then it was poor prep etc etc. Just a shrug of the shoulders and basically tough! We’ve now got to start again and speaking to other decorators nobody would touch Valspar. B&Q… get in touch…

"This stuff is absolute garbage"
This stuff is absolute garbage, keeps bubbling, drags really badly if you go over paint thats been applied even a few minutes ago. Had to repaint the room 3 times over. Will never go near this again

"Paid £5 for samples and then tried to…"
Paid £5 for samples and then tried to use the voucher but ordered through click and collect so not valid! I only ordered them online as I couldn’t get into a store and had someone collecting the paint for me. Voucher only valid for in store purchases!!

"Premium bathroom Matt"
Premium bathroom Matt. Mixed at the store, I shook it before I opened it opened it and shook it again. It has pockets of white all the way through. OH WAIT did I say I opened it? I had to wait till my husband came home because not even a strong gym going woman like me has strong enough hands to open the strange plastic locking system. Which involves forcing the lid down with both thumbs and lifting the rim with you fingers. They have tools to do this in store. Back to the paint it just doesn’t seem to mix very well if I was a professional I’d get a stirrer on it. It’s incredibly patchy can’t be used at all without a grey undercoat, will need three coats. I wouldn’t paint a large room in it because at £40 a 2.5 l tin you’d need maybe 6? I’m hoping it will end well but I’m losing faith 2 coats in.

"Brilliant white Satinwood"
Brilliant white Satinwood. Nothing brilliant about it, bout 20L of premium Matt finish emulsion for my staircase, absolutely spot on, however the 5L of satinwood for the woodwork is awful, it’s like water, splashes everywhere and it’s pretty much see through, you can’t even put it on thicker because it just runs, money wasted and I’ve now got to do the job again with better quality paint. Very poor paint!!!

"Awful"
Awful. Never leave review but so annoyed with the terrible result for expensive premium paint and 2 days worth of painting. It is still drying patchy and uneven after three coats. Used valspar last time a few years ago and it was good but clearly gone seriously downhill since. Never again.

"Thought b&m had a bad reputation for paint, valspar base c is horrendous"
Just painted with walls & ceiling Matt, base coat c. Just tried looking for the difference between bases b&c as I never got the choice instore. The base b in one room went up lovely with 2 coats. The base c is perhaps going to need 5 coates or a different brand. Tried all varieties of rollers and paint brushes. No difference. I thought valspar would be excellent quality. Will stick with Leyland in future. What a waste of money on paint and professional painters to do the job. Still adding Coates to ensure its poor quality paint and not poor craftsmanship. After 2 coates from painters and two coats from me I’ve never seen such a patchy finish.

"Waste of time and money"
Bought 2.5 litre eggshell colour matched with F & B Old White. The colour looked good in the tin. However, despite the woodwork being sanded and undercoated, my decorator could not get a good finish after 4 coats. Total waste of time and money. Thankfully, we acted quickly and changed the paint to Dulux to avoid wasted labour charges. I expect a refund from Valspar and will be contacting them directly. So many one star reviews here, it’s obvious that their products are not fit for purpose.

"Poor coverage and tacky finish"
Coverage and drying of this paint is really really bad!
I had a dark satin coloured paint mixed up for wood and went for the high quality formula. Primed and sanded mdf so well prepped. I've done 3 coats with a sponge roller so far and the finish is still patchy so much so that I've had to buy another tin to get a 4th coat on to see if I can get a uniform finish. Coverage is just absolutely terrible.
Drying between coats is weird. Left for 48hrs but it still remains tacky. This is my second (and last) project with valspar paint. The preious was a sprayed finish so coverage was ok but it took around 4 months for the tacky feeling to dry out completely but it still remains a soft finsh. Until such time the finish is suseptible to fingerprints and marking.

"Nowhere near worth the money"
I had some Valspar wood satin-finish paint mixed in the colour I wanted, to paint a wooden bathroom cabinet, but the paint is so thin and runny that it applies only patchily, however much you load your brush. It drips, and you can wash it off your hands with water, so there's no oil base, as with traditional wood paint. In my experience, this paint is not fit for purpose, despite being expensive.
