Valspar Paint

"Purchased some vaspsar paint from B&Q"
Purchased some vaspsar paint from B&Q. Painted the walls and a day later peeling off. At first I thought it was the backing coat but the ceiling hasn't peeled as I used a different paint. Absolutely shocking, now I need to fine feel all the walls.

"The paint is rubbish but what is worse…"
The paint is rubbish but what is worse are the brainless paint containers. Once the lid taken off you can’t get them back on again properly the result in our house was a paint spill on a new carpet. They are a perfect booby trap.

"By far and away the worst paint I’ve…"
By far and away the worst paint I’ve ever used. Applying a dark blue over a light blue. Upto coat number 4 and it’s patchy everywhere. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. And it’s going to cost me white emulsion to cover the dark, then a different make to finish. Complete waste of couple of days off.

"If I could give it negative stars I would"
We initially went to B&Q looking to colour match some F&B paint, but spotted the Mariana Trench Valspar paint and preferred it, so thought we’d give that a go instead.
What a mistake that was.
When it was initially mixed up it looked like completely the wrong colour, but the girl in the shop assured us it would dry darker. Not convinced but willing to try, we took it home. In fairness, when we dabbed a bit of paint onto the colour card it did match in. What we didn’t realise that it would take so long to get there.
We sanded back the walls and primed them so the paint had the best possible start. 8 coats later and it still looks bloody awful. The paint has now started to produce the dreaded orange peel texture and it’s still patchy. My partner has now started sanding the paint back to try again, but we’re losing the will. Ready for throwing it in the bin and starting again with something else.
Avoid at all costs.

"Tippex Would Apply Better"
Poor application despite well prepared walls. Fading within six months in certain areas (nonot in direct sunlight). Complaint met with offer of a £5 voucher if a receipt can be provided....who keeps a receipt for six months. We do have the can, with bar codes on, so no dispute.

"Very poor coverage"
I bought the premium version (a whopping £74 for 5litres) and it is impossible to get an even coat. The matt looks quite shiny in places. This is the first and last time I will buy Valspar.

"I'm upto coat number 4 and it's still…"
I'm upto coat number 4 and it's still patchy, also tried different types of rollers and brushes, still not good enough. As for the matt side of things it's shiny. I think I'm going to use another brand of paint before I end up bankrupt and 10mm of paint layers on my walls, just feels like I've wasted days on nothing!!!!

"1 star is actually too much for this…"
1 star is actually too much for this shocking paint. I have always used Farrow and Ball but due to cost and a B and Q recommendation I tried Valspar V 700 which is supposed to be the premium grade. If this is premium I dread to think what the others are like. I did all the prep as stated and applied the first coat. It looked really patchy but I thought once it dried it would look better. It actually looked worse so I applied another coat. I used Harris top of the range rollers but I may as well have used a yard brush. It has shadowed and “ flashing” all over it is horrendous. I then sanded it off to the plaster and applied a cheap white emulsion all over. Then applied 2 more coats again it looked exactly the same. It is shocking how bad it is. I have recently painted 3 other rooms in Farrow and Ball and they are absolutely fine. I went back to Band Q who gave me a leaflet to contact Valspar direct. It actually has the wrong email for customer service so I had to call them. At least they are consistent their service is as poor as their paint. I was offered a voucher for another can of paint! Which is a joke. I never ever want to use Valspar paint ever again. I have now contacted 2 professional decorators who both said it’s “ bad paint” and they have never seen anything so bad. Both will no longer use it. I have ran out of steam so will have to use a professional to get the paint off and then go back to Farrow and Ball. This has cost me a fortune which I was trying to avoid in the first place. Do not buy this paint it’s shocking. Shame on you Valspar

"Don’t waste your time and money"
Just spent £17 on tester pots, opened them up and knew right away they weren’t right. Have tried them on the walls and can’t believe how different the paint is to the colour swatch cards. It’s pure false advertising. You don’t expect an exact match but the colours look a completely different shade and are far brighter. Complete waste of time and money.

"Valspar trade paint is a disappointment"
We've used valspar for the last 8 years around our home, and never had any problems. In September we decorated a bedroom in a dark blue, on newly papered and prepped walls. Two coats was all it took, and it looked great. We are now decorating our lounge, having stripped everything back to plaster, papered and prepped the same as before, but the paint coverage is terrible! We went for portrait of a long stocking as the colour, and trade paint, is this where we went wrong? The valspar trade paint was £15 cheaper than buying two 5ltr domestic paint, hence thinking we had a bargain. Sadly we are now on coat 4 of the paint and losing the will to live. Its patchy and every so often we find a solid bead of colour that we have to remove from the wall. As I said we've used valspar for years, following the instructions for use. The gentleman in B&Q explained the colour difference and the drying time, all of which is understandable, and in parts the colour, once dry is true to the swatch. However, after this experience, and the reviews of others, we will be reluctant to use valspar again. Here's hoping we don't need a 5th coat, but it's not looking good :(
