"Can't get the lid off."

I can't get the lid off the 2.5L container just mixed for me at B & Q. I saw they were using a special tool for levering the lid off - it pushes down near the centre of the lid and lifts up at the edge. It seems you can't buy these tools, I was told just to use a screwdriver, but have been unable to use that or any other tool I have to give the right simultaneous push and pull without breaking or distorting the plastic.
Valspar customer services were hopeless - they too explained (in rather broken English) that I should use a screwdriver.
So that's £37 down the drain - before the lid went on it didn't look as if when dry it would match my colour sample anyway, and given the majority verdict on the uselessness of the paint, I think taking the unused can round to the local tip is probably my best option.

My thanks (in a way) for the meaningless response given by Valspar. They said they'd contact me, but of course no contact. Their reply seems to be a meaningless boilerplate, with no reference to the actual problem. Just like most of their replies.

"Bad quality paint"

Bad quality paint - the kitchen and bathroom paint is flaking within two months of professional application. On recommendation form B&Q, contacted Valspar to get a rather rude and unhelpful response. Will not use again and cant't recommend.

"Terrible coverage"

Terrible coverage, done a room with 4 coats and still looks like it needs another coat or 2. This was valspar express coat magnolia. A very big false economy. Buy a dearer better brand and save time .

"Cant open the tin"

Cant open the tin, my husband and teenage sons struggled too and it killed their hands. What’s the point in buying paint and you can’t open!

We had our Valspar paint mixed up in the shade of Blanc de Blancs at B&Q. We had work done to a room in our house and it was replastered. After the plaster dried we did a mist coat with cheap white trade paint and then 2 coats of Valspar. The finish was amazing and we are thoroughly pleased!

"Four coats of this paint and counting"

Four coats of this paint and I'm still going. Should've paid less and gone for Dulux! This was even after giving the walls two coats of a white primer!

I've now got to buy even more to keep going with the coats. I'm guessing I'll need 5 or even 6 coats to remove the patches. I am applying using a brush so this is now an absolute waste of my time.

Stay away from this paint!!!

"Check the recipe Valspar!"

I've used Valspar colour mixed paint a number of times and it's been excellent - but not this time. Had wood paint mixed at B&Q to match F&B colour. The paint is about 2 shades lighter, and the consistency of water. Went back to B&Q and they said 'nothing they can do' - they used the right 'recipe. They said I'd need to buy another tin (made with the same recipe) paint a strip with each tin and send photos to Valspar and they will decide if it's wrong. Have they considered that the 'recipe' does not achieve a good match? Had that been suggested I wouldn't have bought in the first place. Doesn't the fact they have this complicated process suggest they know the matching isn't anywhere near accurate? I'd never ever buy Valspar paint again.

"Very poor coverage"

I picked the most beautiful shade of navy blue. It's taken the decorator 6 coats to get any sort of coverage. 10 litres of paint for a very ordinary hall, stairs and landing. Very disappointed

"Terrible paint."

Was excited about the colour variety, but after using 3 different colours - the quality is terrible. It takes SO many coats to get an even finish and even then it doesn't look good. Not only that, but even the slightest knock takes the paint off in chunks. Will never use again.

Disgusted and disappointed with Valspar. Paint mixed was wrong colour. Told by B&Q to buy another 3 tins, yes 3 tins I purchased,
and would then need to contact valspar as they had a promise if you didn’t like the colour… not my fault as wrong colour mixed, they would refund you for the first (3) colour you had bought.
Contacted and after phone calls and emails told to go back to B&Q not interested at all, so why advertise they do refund. They should have refunded anyway as the paint was wrong…will definitely never buy from them again and will be using social media to let people know not to buy. Also will try to contact someone as their advertising is false
