I tried to apply for a mortgage directly through Coventry building society direct by telephone, my application in principle went to the underwriters to be reviewed and was actually denied as it was a specialist mortgage and they had concerns about it which were very genuine and I understand the denial, however I was extremely impressed with the customer service I received, I called approximately three times per day for updates as I was on a time line and every single time I rang I went straight through to a very helpful, very knowledgeable person, a different person each time but the fact I could speak to many different people on the team and each one was as prompt at answering the call within two rings, very knowledgeable and helpful and had the information at hand every time, the underwriters were working on same day answers and my case was reviewed a few times and the underwriters answered within hours instead of days, the final lady that called me back to say my application had been denied was extremely kind and empathetic, you could hear the disappointment in her voice, so my review is just to say my experience whilst being knocked back was one of efficiency, competency and kindness so I can only imagine how well a mortgage would be processed should it go through to completion, great customer service

We've had accounts with The Coventry Building society before and have always found the staff to be friendly and really good at their jobs. We were particularly pleased that Hannah was still at the Leicester branch. Everyone needs a lovely, patient knowledgeable Hannah! The products on offer are excellent and competitive offering a range to suit most savers. we would definitely recommend them.

"Quite possibly the worst organised"

Quite possibly the worst organised, out of date building society on the planet. My partner and I have been trying to remortgage with them, and they keep asking for different documents, even after providing them with the ones they wanted. They then turn around and tell us that those documents aren’t good enough, and that we need to provide different documentation. Apparently they cannot accept a marriage certificate as proof of marriage. Absolutely absurd and absolutely will not be using them again.

My wife and I called in to the Stourbridge branch to open a new account. This was done promptly and professionally. Everything was explained most clearly and thoroughly. Stuart was the staff member that assisted us and led us through the process.

I opened a new account online yesterday. The process was simple and straight forward.

"Incompetent staff cost me £1.6k"

Called the Coventry BS for a settlement figure om my mortgage at the start of January made it perfectly clear to the call handler what I wanted and he gave me a figure. I then called a couple of weeks later as I was then ready to pay it off so I called again as I know having worked in the Financial Services sector it would have changed slightly but wow when I got the figure it had gone up by over £1600? A complaint was made and upheld as the first call handler had made a mistake. So I then had to find an additional £1600 to pay the mortgage off which to me is not acceptable and also spent alot of time on calls and I was offered £100 for ermm the inconvenience! So with that insulting offer it will be going to the Ombudsman. I won't be dealing with the Coventry again and certainly wouldn't recommend them.

We got excellent service from Antony Leone at the Sheffield branch of the Coventry building society. We called in asking to open a fixed rate bond were given tea and coffee while we had a short wait.
Antony was helpful friendly knowledgeable and efficient.

Recently opened a savings account online with Coventry Building Society. I was impressed with their website. Information was clear and well presented. Opening the savings account was simple, straightforward, efficient and quick! Their interest rate is good, logging in and using my account is also good. Hope they can have a strong influence on Co-op Bank after their recent take-over.
